Living in New England, it’s no surprise that January is considered to be one of the coldest months of the year. With this in mind, it is no wonder that so many find it the perfect time to enjoy a hot bowl of soup! At Giant of Siam, we have a couple of options that are perfect for celebrating National Soup Month. All vary in different heat levels, both when served and in taste. Don’t feel like bearing the cold just yet? We currently offer takeout and delivery in Nashua to make sure you stay warm!Â
The hot and sour soup originated in Northern China but is commonly served throughout Asia. Thanks to the frequent movement of the dish between cultures, all of the recipes differ in ingredients. However, all recipes include both hot and sour flavorings that make the soup’s name. At Giant of Siam, our soup is traditionally made with pineapple, tomatoes, hot peppers, scallions, and onion, with your choice of chicken or shrimp.Â
Tom yum soup is another form of hot and sour soup native to Thai cuisine. The words “tom yam” are derived from two Thai words. Tom refers to the boiling process of making soup, while yam means mixed. Traditionally, Tom Yum soup combines chili, lemongrass, lime juice, tomatoes, mushrooms, and galanga. For those who may not know, galanga is a type of spice closely related to ginger and turmeric.Â
The last of the soups that we offer at Giant of Siam is our Tom Kha Gai. Also native to Thai cuisines, this soup is commonly called chicken coconut soup or galangal soup. Thailand is most known for its tropical beaches, which is one of the reasons why it’s no wonder the soup was created and made famous by natives and tourists alike. We make our Tom Kha Gai with chunks of chicken in a coconut cream soup mixture that includes galanga, lemongrass, lime juice, and mushroom.Â
